Top 5 Games To Watch In Week 5 Of 2017 College Football Season

While the college football slate for Week 5 won’t be flooding with top-10 matchups, there are still plenty of games to look forward to. After all, some top-25ers will be taking the field against one another (spoiler: the defending national champs will be taking on a top-15 school), and this sport has been known to have some crazy weekends in recent memory — and that’s why we love college football.

If you don’t have any plans for Saturday yet, then we encourage you to incorporate the five games below in some fashion.

When the USC Trojans and Washington State Cougars take the field later on tonight, two of the best quarterbacks in the country will also be taking the field in USC’s Sam Darnold and Washington State’s Luke Falk. Combine that with the fact that two undefeated — and ranked — teams will be going at it, and it’s no wonder why this is one of the most intriguing games of the week. If you aren’t doing anything tonight (and even if you are), then your eyes should be glued to the TV screen watching this ballgame.

No. 7 Georgia vs. Tennessee

While it is still so early in the season, this contest has “SEC East title implications” written all over it. After all, if the Tennessee Volunteers go down, they will drop to 0-2 in the SEC. However, if they pull off the upset at home against the Georgia Bulldogs, they will not only get back in the SEC East title race but they will knock off a top-10 team in the process. If nothing else, Georgia vs. Tennessee football is always a must-watch.

No. 24 Mississippi State vs. No. 13 Auburn

There aren’t many top-25 matchups this weekend, but this is one of them. If the Auburn Tigers plan on keeping pace in the SEC West (because even one loss could doom a team in said SEC West), and if they also plan on staying in the College Football Playoff hunt, then they need to win this game. With that in mind, the same thing goes for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a team that already has a loss in 2017 (of course, so does Auburn).

No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 12 Virginia Tech

The Clemson Tigers are on a mission to get back to the national championship game, and they have big wins over Auburn and the Louisville Cardinals to prove it. Meanwhile, if the Virginia Tech Hokies plan on shocking the nation, and making their presence known in the ACC this season, then they can start by winning this game. The Hokies get this clash at home, making this contest that much more intriguing.

Ole Miss vs. No. 1 Alabama

The Ole Miss Rebels, if you can believe it, have knocked off the Alabama Crimson Tide twice during the regular season in the past three years (Alabama won last year’s contest by the score of 48-43). However, this Crimson Tide team is a major favorite entering this year’s version of Ole Miss vs. Alabama, and it is also ranked No. 1 in the country … and it will be playing at home as well.
