Melvin Gordon had a shaky rookie season but has improved to become one of the best running backs in the NFL. He proved as much with the above 87-yard touchdown run to get the scoring going as the Los Angeles Chargers took on the New England Patriots.
Gordon is dangerous, and it’s unfortunate for the Chargers that he hasn’t been 100% healthy basically all season. It didn’t matter today as he finished with 14 carries for 132 yards and the touchdown.
The Chargers are now 3-5 after the 21-13 loss to New England, but anything seems to be possible in a wide open AFC. If Los Angeles is going to get back in the thick of the playoff hunt, they will need their superstar running back to have more games like today.
This might also encourage the Chargers to give him the ball more than 14 times after that display.
