Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook is coming off of arguably the best year of his career (he won the MVP award, after all), and he’s about to cash in in a big way, which should put Oklahoma City fans at ease.
According to ESPN, Westbrook just signed a contract extension with the Thunder … and it’s big — real big.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook, the NBA’s reigning MVP, has signed a five-year, $205 million contract extension, league sources told ESPN.
The deal starts with the 2018-19 season, and delivers Westbrook the biggest guaranteed contract in NBA history — six seasons and $233 million through 2022-23.

The reigning MVP is coming off of a season in which he averaged a league-high 31.6 points per game. He also put up 10.4 assists and 10.7 rebounds per game in the process (yeah … one could say he was a triple-double machine).
It remains to be seen what will happen with this organization after the 2017-18 season from a roster standpoint, but the Thunder should be one of the most entertaining teams in the league all season long. That tends to be the case when a team has a player like Westbrook, and also adds Carmelo Anthony and Paul George in the offseason, which Oklahoma City did, of course, do.
